How to Upload Places as Points of Interest for Place Sets in Citycast

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of uploading places as points of interest for place sets within our platform.

Step 1: Accessing the Upload Functionality

To begin, navigate to the Explore module within Citycast. Look for the Layers and Display Options panel, which can be found in all Explore libraries, including Inventory, Population, and Places.

Step 2: Selecting the Upload Option

Within the Layers tab of the panel, locate the Place Sets section and expand it. If you've previously created place sets, they will be listed here. Above the search panel, you'll find the "Upload Place Set" button. Click on it to initiate the process.

Step 3: Uploading Places

Upon clicking the button, a pop-up modal will appear, guiding you through a four-step process: upload, verify columns, fix errors, and fix duplicates. You'll need to provide a name for your uploaded places, which will serve as the folder name for your files and the place set name for the list of places you're uploading.

Step 4: Utilizing Templates

We offer a downloadable template that includes a list of fields available to provide details about your place set, such as Place Name, Latitude, Longitude, Street Address, City, State, Postal Code, Country, and Place Type. Note that Place Name, Latitude, Longitude, and Place Type are required fields. You can customize column headings but ensure alignment with the provided fields.

We also offer a download Place Type List for all options that are available for the Place Type field. Place Type is a required field so we ask you to please only use values for this column from the list here.

Step 5: Uploading Your File

After completing the template with your place list, you can either drag and drop it into the pop-up modal or select the "Click here to browse file(s)" link. Click the "Validate" button to proceed.

Step 6: Resolving Errors and Duplicates

If any errors are detected, you'll be notified, and you can either fix them or skip them. Errors may include conflicts with our database records or duplicates of existing places. For duplicates, you can choose to retain your selection or select an option from the provided list.

Step 7: Finalizing the Upload

Once you've resolved any issues, click the "Submit" button. If all fields and data are correct, your place set will be added to the list and made live for your use within Citycast.
