This release delivers Citycast Application users a huge impact with the addition of hundreds of thousands of places that have coordinating insights available for viewing. With the formalization of a standardized syncing process, the number of places users can access will grow more rapidly by thousands each week, potentially tens of thousands on a weekly basis.
Below you will find all the details on the updates and improvements for the week of February 14th, 2024.
Placecast Dashboard
Adding platform interface “tool tips” is a top priority for us, as we know this will help users understand the visualization dashboard data more clearly. This includes adding a tooltip to the Local vs non-local graph that explains to users how this distinction is defined by Motionworks.
For example: “A visit is defined as “Local” when the visitor’s home is within a 50-mile radius of the place.”
This can easily be seen by hovering over the “i” in the Local vs non-local chart in the normal or full screen view.

We’ve also added a unique new tooltip to the bottom Trade Area tab of the reporting that provides more information on how we calculate the Trade Area.
For example: “Trade Area values summarize the visitation to all places in a place set by the home location of visitors to each place, grouped by standard geography types (State, DMA, County, Postal Code).”
This is viewable in the bottom right-hand corner and can be closed or expanded.

We’ve also cleaned up consistency in the By Race chart. If a user hovers over any of the graph's bars, they are presented with a more detailed explanation of the basic label. This is expanded upon as follows.
- White = White
- Black = Black/African American
- Native = American Indian/Alaska Native
- Asian = Asian
- Islander = Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
- Other = Some Other Race
- Multiple = Two or More Races

On the Map tab, users will find that the new default view will zoom into the extent of locations selected. This means that the map no longer shows the entire United States but zooms and positions to only include the locations that are selected by users. This update makes it easier to find and see your locations, especially if they are on a much more regional basis. Also, depending on how your locations are mapped, they will group accordingly at a state level.

Users will also see an update to the Table View in the Placecast Dashboard. You can now drill into individual Places through the “+” icon and see visits over time chart viewed Yearly, Quarterly, or Weekly. This chart has been expanded to take advantage of the empty real estate on the screen and removes the extra white space to the right of the chart, delivering a better visualization experience for users.

We cleaned up an issue on the Consumer Profile tab where a user who had the Select Place and the Scroll to Selection tabs both selected at the same time. This would cause a conflict where they would attempt to overwrite each other. We’ve fixed this so that only one can be open at a time, and if a user tries to access the other, the current one is closed.

We’ve added a solid white background to charts and graphs while leaving the overall background an off white. We believe this makes the charts easier to read and makes each individual chart/graph stand out more.

Temporary Retirement of POI Manager
Our goal is to bring the same improvements to POI Manager that we have delivered to the Placecast dashboard. To execute this seamlessly, we will need to allocate development time and resources. While we work on this, we will be removing the POI Manager tool from the platform for all external users to avoid confusion and delivery of incorrect data.
You should be able to get all the place insight data you typically receive from POI Manager from either of the Placecast applications, with the one exception being able to create new places.
If you need new places created, please submit a support request and we will handle this for you. Ideally, this reduces your work and allows us to deliver measurement polygons to you created by our expert team in a timely manner.
You can create a support request by going to support.mworks.com and clicking on the Submit a Request link in the header and selecting “Place and Media Onboarding” from the topic selector. Or you can click the “?” button in the bottom left-hand corner of the application, select “submit feedback,” click the contact us button in the bottom of that panel and similarly request “Places and Media Onboarding.”
